Michael trained as a cardiologist in Wales, UK, The Royal
Postgraduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital and the
Hospital for Sick Children Great Ormond Street, London. After
emigrating to New Zealand in 1975, Michael took up a position
as Consultant Cardiologist and Senior Lecturer in Medicine
at the Medical School of the University of Otago in Dunedin.
Michael spent 11 years with Bristol-Myers Squibb both in New
Zealand and Australia (1988-1999), initially as Medical Director
(NZ) and later as Director of Clinical Research and Medical
Director in Australia.
These roles required Michael to take responsibility for the
broad medical issues facing the company, including regulatory
approval, Health Department relationships, pharmaco-economics,
clinical trials (phase 1-4), medical training, pharmacovigilence
and Medical Information.
Michael is recognised as an innovative thinker with strong
strategic sales and marketing skills.
